About Me

Offline I am an educator and work in schools, universities, and churches in Greater Manchester. I am also an author who has been published in Litro, The Los Angeles Review of Books China Channel, Open Democracy, and more. I also wrote the short story collection ‘The Naked Wedding‘.

Online I have three main activities:

1. Musician and guitar teacher.

I have been teaching guitar since 2004 and offer both online and offline lessons. I update this YouTube channel at least once a week.

2. A linguist and Mandarin teacher.

I have a long and colourful background with China and its language. I worked in state media from 2011 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2018 I was a full-time employee of Midea Group, a Fortune 500 company. My writing in Chinese and about China has been published and has been the subject of media features all over the world.

I give weekly online Mandarin lessons here.

3. A singer-songwriter

I write skits, jokes, comedy songs, and monologues. I perform as The Kev.

The Kev is on YouTube, Instagram and more.

YouTube Improvements

By the end of the spring, the production quality on all my YouTube channels will have improved exponentially. It has already started, but won’t be fully apparent until the end of April.

Music Channel

Starting from earlier this month, all videos have been 1080 XP, and as you can see here, the sound and video quality has improved massively:

Comedy Channel

The shorter videos will use the new and improved camera and mic, and the longer videos will all be 1080 XP.

Monday Mandarin

In January, I went through a splurge of recording and scheduling videos for this channel, scheduling videos into April. The channel is doing fine, but starting from Monday April 8th, it will reach another level.
